1. Never do anything SEO

No SEO means very limited visitors to your website. If you don’t implement SEO, search engines can’t rank your website for relevant keywords. They may not even index the website for months. Leaving it hanging around waiting for traffic that will never show up.

2. On-Page – Off-Page SEO Needed

You will not achieve great success without doing both. Many would say that on-page SEO and off-page SEO are just as important as each other. Your site may be optimized and ranked, but off-page can skyrocket traffic and make your site authoritative (another key factor in ranking higher in search engines).

3. Do not leave SEO for another day

The faster you start, the better it will be. Leaving it for another time will mean more pages to optimize and less website traffic. No ALT tag/image tag/headline will spell disaster, not to mention take days/weeks/months to go through manually.

4. Know your competition

Know where they rank and for which keywords. Knowing this allows you to compete with them. Not knowing this, they blindly dedicate themselves to their business, use the work they have already done to push their website higher.

5. Never think that your website is finished

If you want to rank higher in the SERPS, you have to add new content and improve the site every month. Creating new content means Google bots will search sites regularly and update their indexing.

6. Know why websites are being penalized

Known issues are poor content, excessive keyword usage, pages with lots of ads, low-quality backlinks, among many other things. Research how to get rid of these penalties, as search engines will drop your site in the rankings and not allow it to come back until the issues are resolved.

7. Do not copy content

If Google thinks (knows) that your content is copied, it will demote this page or worse, the entire website. Most images today are copyrighted, so be careful using these images too (it could hit you with a big bill). If you use content from elsewhere, always acknowledge the original source.

8. Blog

If you blog, you add value, which is more important. But second, you add new content to your site. New keyword areas and give people a reason to visit your site.

9. Use the Google search console

The search console allows you to find out what traffic you are currently getting and how many impressions you are getting and for which keywords. This is a very powerful tool for measuring website traffic.

10. Set up and request reviews on Google Business Pages

Google Business Pages can help you rank #1, even if your website isn’t #1 for a certain search. This is a sneaky tool that most SEO consultants/companies reserve for themselves. It’s easy to set up and great for local searches.

I could go on with another 100 posts. But over the next few weeks I’ll separate each section and go into much more detail about the do’s and don’ts in the world of SEO. It’s all about doing the basics and then implementing your own strategy. Watching this carefully and then adjusting what you’re doing. SEO is time consuming, but the benefits far outweigh not doing it.
