Dragon tattoo designs are highly sought after, which is understandable because a dragon design looks great and the creature is highly symbolic. In this article, I am going to tell you about 5 different types of dragon tattoo designs that you might want to consider for your new tattoo.

Dragon Sleeve Tattoo Designs

This design is more popular with guys, but many girls have it too.

The dragon itself usually appears on the upper arm. Due to the way a dragon is formed, there are many designs that incorporate the upper arm (half sleeve) and upper corner of the chest, usually with the snarling dragon’s head just above the nipple area.

This type of tattoo actually looks great in plain black ink, if you want more colors I suggest reds and greens.

Oriental Dragon Tattoo Designs

Most of the dragon tattoos you see are trying to be oriental in some way. It is true that original oriental designs are often very intricate and are done in black ink. This country pays homage to the way dragons were first drawn with a brush. The detail is usually also high and all scales are drawn.

Some of these designs are a circle with the head of the dragon looking straight ahead. These circular designs are popular on the upper arm.

Baby Dragon Tattoo Designs

A baby dragon design is nothing like the traditional oriental dragon. The usual design features an inquisitive (maybe a little silly) big-headed creature in bright, vivid blues or greens and an overall “cartoon” look. These designs are more popular with women.

Welsh Dragon Tattoo Designs

These tattoos generally come in two forms. The first is the classic Welsh dragon standing with one paw raised and looking from right to left. I have also seen other versions that are not in the same pose but where the dragon resembles the classic representation and is still red and black and therefore undoubtedly the Welsh dragon.

Female/Feminine Dragon Tattoos

There are many women who also sport these designs, not only men do. The designs are generally not dissimilar to those worn by men. The normal dragon look actually looks great on women.

Women have greater versatility where this design looks good. They can have it on the side of the belly and reaching below the belt line, on the back, on the lower back, below the nape of the neck, and on the side of the body. Another great location that I saw recently is the side of the thigh.

Dragon Tattoo Meaning

Dragon mythology originates from East Asia. There, he is not feared as he usually is in western movies. Instead, he is revered and regarded as a good-natured and intelligent beast.
