The Maldives are truly spectacular and the perfect destination for a luxury vacation. There are a plethora of resorts to choose from, so you may have trouble deciding which one is right for you. Here are some helpful tips to help you choose the perfect resort for the perfect Maldives vacation.

  • Determine your budget. Resorts in the Maldives can be very expensive, so your budget will help you narrow down the list substantially. Keep in mind that an all-inclusive resort may be cheaper overall.
  • Think about what you want to do on your Maldives vacation. Do you want to laze on the sugar white sands? Or are you the active type interested in snorkeling through coral reefs or parasailing over the ocean? You’ll find activities at every resort, but some will have better facilities than others. Some resorts, for example, are well known for their house reefs, which is great if you plan on diving. If you’re planning an active vacation to the Maldives, look for a resort that offers an all-inclusive package so you don’t have to pay a daily fee for your activities.
  • Which package is the most suitable? Once you have established your budget and your planned activities, you can consider the package that suits you best. Prices start with room only, bed and breakfast, full board (all meals included but no drinks) and all inclusive (food and alcohol included and some/all activities). If you plan to spend your time visiting other islands and eating out, you should select bed and breakfast only or bed and breakfast. If you plan to be active and have a few beers by the pool in the evening, then an all-inclusive package will probably work out cheaper overall.
  • Accommodation. Most resorts offer a variety of accommodations, so consider whether you prefer a beach villa just feet from the ocean or an overwater villa located right on the ocean. For the ultimate luxury, water villas can’t be beat. You will be able to look out the window and watch the marine life go by, of course, that luxury comes at a price.
  • Kids. If you’re traveling with kids, choose a resort with a kids’ club to keep them entertained while you relax and enjoy your vacation.
  • Male. If you want to spend a day exploring the nation’s capital, check to see if your resort offers day trips.
  • Weather. The optimal time to visit the Maldives when it comes to weather is between December and April. During these months you should see the most hours of sunshine and the least amount of rain. Of course you shouldn’t be surprised to learn that this is also the most expensive time of year to travel!
  • Romance. If you’re planning a honeymoon in the Maldives, or just a romantic getaway, look for a resort on one of the smaller islands that tend to be quieter and more intimate. Some of the larger islands have more of a party atmosphere.
