Nokia’s new range of Windows smartphones are arguably some of the best devices the Finnish manufacturer has produced in the last three years. The flagship model of this range is the magnificent Lumia 900, considered one of the best phones available today. We thought we’d compare this model to the expected specification of the eagerly awaited Samsung Galaxy S3 to see how the models compare in terms of display technology and multimedia facilities.

When the Samsung Galaxy S2 originally launched in 2011, it boasted one of the best screens available on any smartphone. It looks like its successor is likely to raise the bar again when it comes to display technology. The model is expected to launch with a massive 4.6 or 4.7-inch screen. This screen will use Super AMOLED Plus technology to help produce excellent image reproduction as well as very wide viewing angles compared to traditional LCD screens. The model is expected to offer a very high resolution of 1280 X 720 pixels, which means that the device will be able to display high-definition images. Pixel density should rival Apple’s iPhone 4S at around 319 pixels per inch. The Nokia Lumia 900 uses an AMOLED screen that measures 4.3 inches. The resolution of this screen is a bit disappointing for a premium phone at just 480 x 800 pixels. Although the phone produces a high-quality image, the pixel density is considerably lower than what the S3 will offer at 217 PPI. Gorilla Glass is used on the Lumia 900 for added durability and the S3 may use the next generation of this material which is reportedly much thinner than the first generation.

The Samsung Galaxy S3 is likely to include an excellent multimedia suite that will incorporate a high quality digital camera and excellent video recording features. It is rumored that the model will capture photos at a resolution of 12 million pixels. This will bring the device in line with the new Sony Xperia S in this department. An image stabilizer will be introduced to help users capture the best images, while touch focus will allow users to focus on any area of the photo they want. The Lumia 900 includes an 8 megapixel camera that uses a very high quality Carl Zeiss lens that helps the device produce fantastic images. Like the S3, there are a host of extra features, like an LED flash and geo-tagging options. Both models can record high-definition video footage, although Samsung does so at a higher 1080P resolution than the 720P standard recorded by the Lumia.

There is no doubt that these two premium phones will be very successful with consumers. The Lumia 900 will appeal to users looking for a great Windows phone, but the Samsung Galaxy S3 offers the best display technology and multimedia features.
