Not having sound on your Microsoft Windows 7 computer can put your plans to listen to your favorite music on hold until you fix the problem. It happens out of nowhere and sometimes you can’t even imagine what the hell has caused your computer’s sound to go mute. With this in mind, we have discussed two Microsoft automated sound troubleshooters in this Microsoft Windows 7 support guide. These troubleshooters can automatically apply possible fixes and get the sound system working again. The steps in the troubleshooting wizards are self-explanatory.

Step 1

Open your web browser and visit the Microsoft Support Center website. Download Microsoft’s Audio Playback Troubleshooter, the automated tool on your computer. Click on the Save the file button to save the MicrosoftFixit.AudioPlayback.Run.exe file to your computer. When done, exit the web browser window. Find the file you just saved on your computer.

Step 2

Open the file, click To run. Make sure you are logged in as an administrator user on your Microsoft Windows 7 PC to run this. Otherwise, you will not be able to run the automatic troubleshooter. When prompted, click the I agree check box to accept the license user agreement and click the next button. The troubleshooter will look for problems.

Step 3

When prompted, click the Find problems and apply fixes for me (recommended) gold Detect problems and allow me to select the fixes to apply. option. The troubleshooter will diagnose common sound problems on your Microsoft Windows 7 computer and fix them automatically if you selected the first option. If you select the second option, the troubleshooter will display the problem and allow you to fix the problem by giving you the option.

Step 4

Do what you are told. If the troubleshooting is complete, click the Yes, the problem has been fixed. button and click the Send button. Exit the troubleshooter window. If the problem has not been solved, continue with the troubleshooting. If prompted, upgrade your sound card drives. If the troubleshooter doesn’t detect any problems with your Microsoft Windows 7 setup, you can run a hardware and device troubleshooter to check if the problem lies with your sound card or speakers.

Step 5

Open your web browser and download the MicrosoftFixit.Devices.Run.exe tool, the hardware and device troubleshooter. Save the file to your computer as you did in the first step, and run the tool as you did in the second step. When done, follow the instructions and let the troubleshooter diagnose your Microsoft Windows 7 computer for potential hardware problems. If prompted, update the drivers and finish troubleshooting.

Step 6

The troubleshooter detects a bad sound card or speaker, replace it. When done, exit the troubleshooter window. If either or both of the troubleshooters fail to fix the sound problems on your computer after applying the possible solutions, you can contact Microsoft technical support.
