Definition of insomnia

Insomnia is a medical term that generally refers to a symptom of sleep disorders, in which the patient has difficulty maintaining or falling asleep.

The definition of insomnia can be simplified into 3 main categories.

  • Unable to fall asleep. However, if sleep is achieved, the patient will be in deep sleep.
  • Able to fall asleep easily, but with difficulty getting a good night’s rest
  • You wake up too early in the morning, after which you can’t go back to sleep

Information about insomnia

Insomnia usually goes away on its own and usually lasts a week or two. If the sleep disorder problem persists for at least 6 months, this is serious enough to be warranted as a chronic disease.

Having a prolonged period of unsatisfying sleep is extremely unhealthy. Your mood, your physical and mental health and your social relationships will be affected.

In addition to chronic insomnia, normally those who suffer from it will suffer from other diseases such as anxiety, depression or muscle pain.

Insomnia can occur when some events have happened that have a great impact. In some cases, you will not be able to pay your home loan or the death of a loved one. Constant thoughts about events increase brain activities and cause insomnia, making it difficult for patients to sleep.

Or, based on the definition of insomnia above, events can even play out like nightmares, making it hard to get a good night’s sleep.

Interesting history of insomnia

Insomnia is not a modern disease and the date of onset was unknown. Many famous people have insomnia and they used it to their advantage and some of them had thought of special methods to cure their sleep disorder problems.

When Winston Churchill, Charles Dickens, and Ben feel up at night and can’t sleep, they blame their lack of sleep on their beds.

Winston Churchill changed the bed he slept in and solved his sleepless nights.

While Charles Dickens could only sleep if he was in a certain position. His bed had to face north and he would have to be exactly in the middle of his bed to get a good night’s sleep.

For Benjamin Franklin, the bed would have to be cold enough for him to sleep. If the bed was too hot, he would get out of bed to allow the air to cool her down before trying to enter dreamland again.

Napoleon Bonaparte took full advantage of his inability to sleep to plan his invasions.
