Are you aware of the connection between your mind and your body? How often do you feel that connection? Do you notice the effect of your thoughts on the sensations in your body? And do you realize how much your thoughts alter the sensations in your body? Change one and you change the other.

THERE IS NO SEPARATION between the mind and the body. Our body does not act on its own. Even the so-called involuntary bodily responses are, in fact, regulated by our own thoughts. Advanced yogis and others have revealed that our bodies are capable of feats we don’t normally think are possible:

• we can control and slow down our breathing

• we can maintain our body temperature in icy water or walk on hot coals

• we can pierce our body with sharp metals without pain and without leaving scars

• we can twist and bend our bodies into all sorts of contorted positions

• we can balance on tightropes and perform amazing gymnastic stunts

• we can break world running records or perform a perfect Olympic routine

Anything that has ever been created by a human was first conceived in someone’s mind and then created and designed in physical form. Every cell in our body works according to the instructions provided by our DNA with the help of our living mind.

When our heart stops beating and our brain stops working, our body stops working. Our legs do not walk. Our arms no longer rise. Our eyes do not see. Our brain and our mind control all the functions of our body. Our body responds to the thoughts in our mind.

Change the thoughts and the cells of our body will respond. We literally carry our emotions all over our bodies. It is enough to observe the posture of someone who is depressed (shoulders slumped, gaze down). Then look at the posture of someone who just succeeded at something they really wanted (standing up straight, smiling, head up, maybe arms up).

Our body does not lie. It reveals to us the way we have been thinking and feeling. If someone has really upset us in our life, perhaps that person has literally become a “pain in the neck.” If we feel without emotional and/or financial support, we can develop severe back pain. If we feel like we want to run away from a situation we can’t get out of, we can develop foot, ankle, knee or leg problems.

The solution to healing your emotions and your body is to pay attention to your thoughts and also to pay attention to the symptoms in your body. There may be some important messages about what works, what doesn’t work and maybe you need to change in your life, your lifestyle, your emotional state or your relationships. The mind/body connection cannot be ignored.
