Excessive neck sweating is a serious problem for more than a million people in the United States (in different forms, of course). Sweating around the neck (or focal hyperhidrosis) is usually a genetic disorder and cannot be permanently cured. However, there are ways to decrease sweating so that it is very manageable and very smooth. So grab a cup of coffee, sit back and read this article on neck sweat.

what I do not recommend

The first method is anticholinergics (or oral medications). These medications can be prescribed by your doctor and have been successful in some people. However, these drugs have terrible side effects like temporary vision loss, blurred vision, dry mouth, and others. Most doctors and myself do not recommend oral medications for this reason.

Next we have botox. Botox is one of the most effective ways to cure excessive neck sweating as it closes the sweat pores in the injected area. However, it has MANY flaws which, in my opinion, make it a bad idea. First of all, it is not a permanent solution. He would have to undergo treatments several times a year. Second, it’s painful, since you have to put 20+ needles into one side of your neck every time you go. Lastly, it can be quite expensive, since it is plastic surgery.

Third, we have iontophoresis, which is a very “smeared” method. I say this because it only works on some people. Doctors use water with a mild electrical current on the neck (or the area where you sweat) to close the pores. Although it seems bad, it does not hurt, however, for patients where it works, they should be treated 3 times a week. Personally, that’s not the way I want to live.

what I do recommend

The only thing I have used that is easy, painless and safe is natural methods. A little trick I’ve been doing for years is putting baking powder on my neck for about 20 minutes and then washing it off. The particles that stay on the neck absorb water very well to prevent neck sweating. In addition, the use of very strong antiperspirants can drastically prevent sweating.
