The Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) World Qualifying Series (WQS) four-star surf event will take place at the famed Lower Trestles in San Clemente, California from April 24-28. In addition, now in its 15th year, Lower Trestles will also host the prestigious Jeep-Body Glove Surfbout event, which will kick off Macy’s California’s Trifecta Surf Series sponsored by the Chrysler Group Jeep brand. In addition, the ASP Grade-2 Oakley Pro Junior surf event will also take place at Lower Trestles.

Related to this, ASP and WQS will be doing the daily beach cleaning for this year’s event. Beach cleanups will take place every day for approximately 2 hours from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm People can get gloves and trash bags at the Ocean Minded tent. According to Gary Ward, President of Ocean Minded: “Events like the Jeep Body Glove Surfbout bring out the best in surfing. We at Ocean Minded are excited to lead the beach cleanup efforts at the event.”

Around 192 of the world’s top professional surfers and 32 of the world’s top junior surfers are expected to take part in the five-day world-class surfing event at Lower Trestles. Some of the previous winners of this prestigious surf event are confirmed to compete. They include CJ Hobgood ((Melbourne Beach, FL), the 2001 ASP World Champion along with his twin brother Damien Hobgood. Both surfers are currently ranked 17th on Foster’s ASP World Tour. Other famous surfers expected to Coming to Low Trestles include Ryan Helm (Jupiter, FL), Dayyan Neve (Manly Beach, AUS) and Gabe Kling (St. Augustine, FL) Local surf stars like Chris Ward (San Clemente, CA), Mike Losness ( San Clemente, CA), Shaun Ward (Huntington Beach, CA), Austin Ware (Solano Beach, CA), Anthony Petruso (Malibu, CA) and Macy’s California 2006 Trifecta Series Champion Nathan Yeomans of San Clemente, CA , they are also expected to join this year’s surfing event.

These Competitors will be fighting for the $75,000 cash prize and, of course, valuable points awarded by the Association of Surfing Professionals and the World Ranking Series. In addition, Macy’s California Trifecta will also award an additional prize of $33,333 to the surfer who places first in all three events. The surfer will also be bringing an all-new 2007 Jeep Patriot equipped with a quality Jeep shock into his garage, courtesy of Macy’s California Trifecta. Junior surfers will compete for the additional prize of $5,000.
