Okay, I know this is going to miss a lot of you, but I have NEVER dyed my hair before. I’ve been looking at this same hair color (and I’m not even going to lie, pretty much the same hairstyle too) for my whole damn life!

It’s time for a change and I’m looking for advice on the best at-home hair dye brand. I don’t have the time or money to dye my hair professionally.

For reference, I’m thinking of dying my hair a honey brown with highlights. I can’t think of another way to describe it hahaha.

Tell me girls, what is the best brand of home dye for a newbie?

how to blow your hair

Mm, I love how my hair looks after getting a haircut at the salon and they blow it out perfectly. My hair never looks as good as when done by a professional.

But even they had to start somewhere, and the truth is, with enough practice, you could make explosions just as good as the pros if you wanted to learn. I know I’m going to perfect my technique with these, the best styling tips from around the net.

Tip #1: You want to start with hair that is washed, conditioned, and gently towel-dried. Be gentle with your hair when you towel dry it to prevent breakage.

Tip #2: Choose the right styling products for your hair type. In no case should gel be used (gel + dryer = flakes). Use it to smooth and condition or this thickener to volumize depending on the look you’re going for.

Tip #3: Use the right hair dryer. A poor quality dryer will give you bad results. Do you think they use fucking blow dryers in the salon? NO. They choose tools that will make their clients’ hair look good so they can get back in business. Take this advice from the pros. Invest in a good hair dryer (usually cheaper than you think).

Tip #4: Work on one section at a time. Most women can divide their hair into 4 sections. You know, right back, left back, right side/top, left side/top, but those with very thick hair will need to create more “sections.” Cut out each section except the one you’re starting with (start at the bottom).

Tip #5: Pull on your hair! Wow, I know that sounds bad, but you need to keep your hair straight, pulling it away from your head for good volume and getting rid of all the hiding places in the shaft of each hair where water can hide and cause frizz. Gently separate the hair from the scalp with just your fingers and aim the air towards the crown of the head.

Tip #6: After the roots have dried in the section you are working on, you should use a round brush. Run the brush through sections of your hair, holding the hair very taut to make it as smooth as possible. Follow the movements of your brush with your hair dryer. Try to blow the air downward, so that your hair cuticles lie flat. This makes it look shiny.

Tip #7: Finish off the cool button on each section as soon as you finish blow-drying. You still need to keep your hair taut for a nice smooth look.

Tip #8: Only use shine serum or frizz reducing serum if you need it. Don’t even think about it if you tend to have limp or oily hair, except at the ends.
